DIY Department
Welcome to Amy's DIY Department!
Here you will find tutorials, patterns, and materials that you can use to make your own pads! The tutorials contain lots of information about how to decide what size to make your pads, what materials to use, how to use different fasteners, and how to customize the patterns so you end up with the right pads for you.
The patterns are easily adjustible and customizable. Notches and clips are marked so that you can be sure you're sewing the pieces together correctly and so that the seams will lay flat.
You can choose between downloadable and physical patterns. Here's some info to help you decide which style of patterns to get:
Downloadables:
- You have them as soon as you complete your transaction.
- You can print as many copies as you need for your own personal use.
- The seam allowance is marked so you can cut your patterns on the sew line if you prefer to sew directly onto a traced line.
My files may not be compatible with your operating system and printer. Please download the test page and make sure it prints correctly before buying any downloads.
Physical Patterns:
- They're handy if you don't have easy access to a printer or card stock.
- The cereal box cut outs are very eco-friendly! They're cut from recycled cartons, which I would be cutting anyway because I put a layer of cereal box underneath the fabric every time I use my shop press cutter.
- They're durable.
- Pattern markings are rubber stamped onto each one.
You may want to get a printed and bound tutorial even if you're getting downloadable patterns. The downloadable tutorial is a 53 page booklet that is kind of a tricky puzzle to put together and your sewing machine needs a lot of torque to sew the bindings (or you could use strong staple).
